How it works
- 1Add one ASS v4+ file or load the local-file example.
- 2Review the dialogue count and source time range.
- 3Convert, read the loss summary beside the action, then download the SRT.
Example result
The example includes readable dialogue, one style override, and one comment so the adjacent loss summary is visible.
The example above uses this exact fixture and can be reset like any selected file.
What is preserved
- Dialogue order and valid timing
- Readable dialogue text and line breaks
- Commas inside the final Text field
What changes
- ASS override tags, styles, positioning, effects, karaoke, and drawings are removed.
- Comments are ignored and counted. SRT output uses normalized LF syntax.
Limits
- ASS v4+ only, with a resolvable standard style format
- File input only, no paste mode
- No style recreation, audio sync, timing repair, upload, or login
Frequently asked questions
Why is this conversion lossy?
SRT stores timing and text, but it cannot represent most ASS styling, positioning, effects, karaoke instructions, or vector drawings.
Will malformed Dialogue rows be skipped?
No. A malformed or empty-after-loss event blocks the result and identifies the event and source line.
Are comments included in SRT?
No. ASS comments are ignored and their count appears in the loss summary.
