VTT to TXT Converter

Extract text from VTT as plain TXT in your browser and turn VTT to text without retyping. The vtt to txt converter keeps subtitle order and removes only the timing layer.

TXT output removes the WEBVTT header, cue timestamps, NOTE blocks, and cue settings, and keeps subtitle text order separated by blank lines.

What this converter does

  • Converts SRT to VTT with the same subtitle line count, timing, and displayed text.
  • Converts VTT to SRT for editor or platform handoff.
  • Extracts TXT from SRT or VTT by removing timing and keeping subtitle text order.
  • Runs locally in the browser with no upload and no login.

Converter boundary

TXT output is text extraction, not a subtitle file. Use SRT/VTT when you need timed subtitles, and Script + Audio when timing must follow a real voiceover.

When to convert VTT to TXT

A clean transcript from web captions

WebVTT files often arrive from web players, recorders, and platform exports. Converting VTT to TXT strips the WEBVTT header, timestamps, and VTT-only blocks, leaving the spoken wording in order — a transcript you can read, edit, or paste anywhere.

Translation and localization base

A clean text file is the most useful translation base. Extract text from VTT once, translate the wording in any editor, then rebuild timed subtitles for the target language with matching audio when sync matters. Removing timecodes first means you translate subtitle wording, not timestamps.

TTS and voiceover scripts

Text-to-speech and narration sessions usually start from plain text. Converting VTT to TXT removes the timing layer so a narrator or TTS engine reads only the subtitle wording in the original order, with no cue identifiers or timecodes interrupting the script.

What the output keeps and drops

The converter keeps cue order and internal line breaks, and separates cues with a blank line. It removes the WEBVTT header, cue identifiers, timestamps, NOTE comments, STYLE and REGION blocks, and cue settings such as line:90%. TXT is a text asset, not a timed document.

Limits of TXT extraction

The output cannot be uploaded as captions and contains no timecodes to edit. If the goal is a timed deliverable, rebuild a draft with TXT to SRT, or align the script to voiceover with Script + Audio, then convert the finished subtitles to the format you need.

VTT to TXT questions

Can I convert vtt to txt without losing subtitle order?

Yes. The output keeps every cue in its original order, separated by blank lines, and removes the header, timestamps, and VTT-only blocks.

What is removed from the VTT file?

The WEBVTT header, all timestamps, cue identifiers, NOTE comments, STYLE and REGION blocks, and cue settings. Only the displayed wording remains.

Does the vtt to txt converter join subtitle lines?

No. Lines inside one cue keep their own line breaks, and different cues are separated by a blank line. Nothing is silently merged.

Can I use the TXT output as a translation base?

Yes. Extract text from VTT, translate the wording, then rebuild timed subtitles with matching audio when accurate sync is required.

Does converting vtt to txt fix timing or overlaps?

No. It only extracts the text; timing and readability issues should be checked in the original file with the subtitle checker.

Can I convert SRT files too?

Yes. The same page offers SRT to TXT with the same text-order and blank-line rules.

Are my subtitles uploaded anywhere?

No. Reading, conversion, preview, copy, and download happen entirely in your browser tab.

What happens to cue settings like line:90%?

They are timing- and layout-only metadata with no meaning in plain text, so they are removed along with the timestamps.

Can I use the extracted text for word counts or analysis?

Yes. Because timing is removed, the plain text is easy to count, search, and analyze in any document tool, and the order still matches the subtitles.

How do I rebuild a subtitle file from the TXT?

Paste the text into TXT to SRT for an estimated-timing draft, or use Script + Audio when the timing must match a real voiceover.
